1. Raw Material Base
The key to producing premium Pu'er tea lies in the control of raw materials. The Golden Qilin tea is sourced from Xinjing's own tea plantation in the Wuliang Mountain range, covering an area of about 20,000 acres. This base is nestled deep within the mountains, surrounded by pristine forests.
2. Processing
The fresh leaves are handpicked according to the one bud, two leaves standard. The leaves are withered in bamboo baskets, pan-fired in iron woks, hand-rolled, and sun-dried.
3. Appearance
Whether it's old or new tea, a glossy, oily appearance is a fundamental characteristic of good Pu'er. The Golden Qilin cake has a dark, oily surface, with plump and clear tea leaves that shine when viewed closely. This reflects the richness of the ancient tea trees and their abundant internal properties.
4. Liquor Color
The liquor is clear and bright with an oily golden hue. The surface of the tea always carries a "golden ring." This is due to the high content of lipids, pectin, and tea polyphenols.
5. Aroma
From start to finish, whether in the aroma of the tea, the cup, or the wet leaves, Golden Qilin consistently offers a fragrant and floral sweetness, with distinct honey-like notes.
6. Taste
Smooth and non-greasy, refreshing without being cold, it offers a full mouthfeel that encourages salivation and a lasting sweetness. If brewed with a lighter amount of tea, it remains soft and gentle, showcasing the characteristic softness of ancient tree teas. Even after dozens of infusions, the tea remains rich and refreshing.
7. Infusion Endurance
The ability to endure multiple infusions is a key indicator of whether a tea is truly made from ancient tree leaves. With around 15 grams of tea and good quality water, this tea can be steeped 40-50 times.
8. Tea Energy
Many people confuse a bitter and astringent taste with tea energy. In reality, the tea's energy flows through the five organs (heart, liver, spleen, lungs, and kidneys), and it won’t linger on the tongue or be too astringent. When the tea enters your body, it spreads warmth and induces sweating, either on the palms, soles, waist, or head. The sensation of "tea energy" often leaves tea lovers amazed.
9. Brewing Tips
- Water Temperature: Both high and low temperatures work well.
- Tea Cake Handling: Use the front side of the cake to avoid breaking it into small fragments.
- Brewing Technique: Brew the tea slowly to allow guests ample time to savor the flavor, similar to tasting aged wine. Let the tea cool down to room temperature for the best taste.
